Network Management 3rd Meeting

HUB - connects a group of users/host.
SWITCH - add more intelligence to data transfer management.
ROUTER - used to connect network together and route packets of data from one network to another.

Physical Topology - an actual connection/layout of wire or media.
Logical Topology - defines how the media is accessed the host sending and receiving data.

Types of Topologies
BUS Topology - a connection using single backbone cable that is terminated at both ends.
RING Topology - that connects one host to the next and to the fist host.
STAR Topology - all end-user connects via cables to a central point of concentration using router.
EXTENDED STAR Topology - links individual star together by connecting via hubs and switches. Extend the scope and coverage of the network using two or more switches/router.
MESH Topology - a host has its own connections to all other host, multiple paths to any one location and to provide as much protection as  possible from interruption of service.
